Initiatives
Howard County REACT prides itself for being involved in several initiatives that better the community and prepare residents for emergency situations. From REACT's pioneered work in Safety Wake Breaks to the support of the county's Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT), Howard County REACT continually expands and assumes new roles to improve the greater good of the community through public service.

Safety Wake Breaks
Originally developed by several REACT teams to provide hot coffe and food to motorists that stop into local rest stops during busy holiday travels. This program continues to be one of REACT's biggest public relations tools.

CERT - Community Emergency Response Teams
Originally started Los Angles to prepare residents for disaster such as earthquakes, CERT has grown nationally and is now supported by the federal government. The concept gives community residents the knowledge and training to sustain themselves and support their community for days until emergency responders reach them.

Skywarn
A National Weather Service program that uses trained individuals to report severe weather conditions occurring in  their communities.

Roadside Assistance
Breaking down on the roadside can be a scary thing. Traffic doesn't slow down and in some cases, the fright is only exacerbated by bad weather. REACT's RSA program insures that any motorist that breaks down or has an accident is safer until a tow or emergency personnel arrive.

CLIP & Emergency  Call Channels
One of REACT's first initiatives, this educational program teaches anybody how to communicate information during an emergency. Originally developed for radio communications, this program can also be applied to include cell phones and landlines.
